Thinking Of Trying Laser Hair Removal? What You Need To Know

By Andrew Anastasio

Making The Change To Laser Hair Removal

You can't go far without encountering a magazine article or advertisement toting the benefits of laser hair removal. Laser hair removal is usually advertised as a permanent solution to unwanted body hair; and indeed, you can get permanent results from it. Maybe you've disregarded laser hair removal treatments in the past thinking they just aren't for you.

You may not be used the idea of using a laser instead of hot wax or a blade to remove body hair, but that's just what laser hair removal is all about. Lasers can be developed to target certain colors; the lasers that laser hair removal technicians use target things that are dark in color. Because most people's body hair is darker than their skin, the laser can target just the hair.

Due to the mechanism by which laser hair removal actually works, people with fair skin and dark hair tend to benefit the most from it. It tends to be difficult to target hair with the laser if somebody has darker skin. Laser hair removal can still be done, and still be effective, on darker skin; however, it will take longer for each session, generally, and more sessions may be required overall.

It's also a good idea, if you do have darker skin, to find a more experienced doctor who knows exactly what he or she is doing. On the same note, people with fair skin and light hair are difficult to treat as well. Blond and red hair are both just generally hard for the laser to "see". If you have coarse, dark hair that makes a strong contrast with your skin tone, you're the perfect candidate.

But just because your hair is dark and skin, pale, it doesn't mean that you'll get away without at least a few treatment sessions. Though you may not know this, hair grows in cycles. Hair follicles are occasionally in a "resting" phase and therefore don't have hair growing out of them. Multiple sessions spaced out over a span of time ensure that the technician is able to remove all of the hair that you want to remove.

So how much is all of this going to cost? Where you live is a factor in terms of how much laser hair removal costs. Generally, though, laser hair removal sessions cost between three hundred and five hundred dollars. You may be tempted to go with whatever clinic offers the lowest price; however, this is a medical procedure, and quality is always more important than price when your health is on the line. Lastly, consider the side effects of laser hair removal before you start treatment; if you're sure that you want to go forward after that, then it's time to look forward to years of hairless skin!
